Whittier, Calif. - Freshman Billy Sanchez and sophomore Alexandro Rodriguez earned All-South Coast Conference South Division Second Team honors, while freshman Nick Redick earned a Rawlings Gold Glove First Team nod, announced Monday.
Sanchez played in 37 games, 20 in conference, splitting time between designated hitter, first base, second base, and shortstop. He hit .379 on the season with 44 hits, includng eight doubles and a triple, and adding 21 RBI and 18 runs. In conference, he batted .375 with five doubles, 10 runs, and 10 RBI.
Rodriguez, the team's lone sophomore, appeared in 34 games at designated hitter and in left and right field. He finished the season batting .318, leading the team in doubles (8), triples (4), home runs (2), RBI (24), and runs scored (24). He scored half of his runs in conference with three doubles, two triples, and a home run, adding 11 RBI.
Redick was perfect in conference play, appearing mainly in centerfield, with 41 putouts and three assists. On the season, he recorded 70 putouts with five assists. The Rawlings Gold Glove honors go to outstanding outfielders. Offensively, Redick was a force at the plate late in the season, earning CCCBCA SoCal Player of the Week honors, and stringing together a seven-game hitting streak in which five of those games were mutli-hit outings.
